“By relating the history of the United States to the new-age challenges African Americans face, the corollary forms that racists have always intended to quell the power, potential, and voices of Black Americans. Those in power are cashing in on the institutional empires their forefathers built to sustain their dominance. Despite popular belief, the fight for justice is not over. It all begins with education.”

Our Mission:

Hello, and welcome to Redacted History! My name is Cici; I’m your host, producer, and creator. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for checking out our podcast. The entire first season of Redacted History will be dedicated to Black History in the United States.

Allow me to begin with our mission. We have two main goals in mind:

1. To call everyone in to learn and talk about history. Essentially, let’s explore together what was left out of our textbooks and lessons growing up— what was redacted.

2. The first goal paves the way for the second. Redacted History is a way for People of Color to send this podcast to their colleagues, family, or friends that aren't aware of the nuances of systemic racism in the States. This reduces the labor that comes alongside having to persistently explain our experiences to often be dismissed.

Thus, I must say, I don’t think there should be shame in the unknown, only shame in unwillingness to learn. As an aside, I would like to make this disclaimer very clear: if someone you know advised you to listen to this, or you’re starting to feel defensive, I espouse what you should feel instead is both hope and anger. Feel angry that you were robbed of a proper education, but hopeful that we at Redacted History believe you are more than capable of learning, critical thinking, and reflection. You are worthy of knowledge about the world around you, so I’ll say again; thank you for tuning in.

-Cici
